Brief History
The Department of Psychiatry at Government Doon Medical College & Hospital, Dehradun was established to meet the growing need for quality mental health services in Uttarakhand. Since its inception, the department has been actively involved in patient care, teaching, and mental health awareness programs. It offers outpatient and inpatient psychiatric services, and counseling facilities. The department regularly organizes academic activities, awareness campaigns, and observances such as World Mental Health Day, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and World Suicide Prevention Week, contributing significantly to both medical education and community welfare.

Clinical Services :-
1.Outpatient Department (OPD) Services – Evaluation, diagnosis, and management of various psychiatric disorders.
2.Inpatient Services – Admission and treatment of patients requiring intensive care and supervision.
3.Emergency Psychiatry Services – 24-hour assessment and management of psychiatric emergencies such as suicidal attempts, aggression or acute psychosis.
4.Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry – Psychiatric consultation for patients admitted in other departments (medicine, surgery, gynaecology, etc.).
5.De-addiction Services – Detoxification for patients with substance abuse disorders.
6.Child and Adolescent Psychiatry – Evaluation and management of behavioural, emotional, and developmental problems in children and adolescents.
7.Geriatric Psychiatry – Assessment and treatment of psychiatric and cognitive disorders in elderly patients.
8.Psychotherapy and Counselling Services – Individual, group, and family counselling sessions conducted by psychiatrists.
9.Community Mental Health Services – Mental health camps, awareness programs, and outreach activities in rural and urban areas.
Academic and Training Activities:-
1.Undergraduate Teaching – For MBBS students.
2.Internship Training, Clinical exposure for MBBS interns, Paramedical, Psychology Students and Nursing Students.
