About Government Doon Medical College (GDMC), Dehradun

Government Doon Medical College (GDMC), Dehradun, is a premier medical institution established by the Government of Uttarakhand to fulfill the state’s growing needs in healthcare services and medical education.
Recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and affiliated with Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University (HNBUMU), GDMC has rapidly evolved into a centre of excellence in teaching, training, research, and patient care.

The associated teaching hospital, Doon Hospital, was established in 1935 as a district hospital and has grown into a state-of-the-art, ISO-certified, super-speciality tertiary care facility.
Today, it operates as a 750+ bedded hospital offering advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities, including:

Formed on 9 November 2000, Uttarakhand faces unique challenges due to its mountainous terrain, dispersed rural population, and difficult accessibility. Nearly 80% of residents live in remote areas, making healthcare delivery particularly challenging.

GDMC was established with a vision to bridge this gap by offering accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare to the people of Uttarakhand.
